London’s Waterloo mainline station, the busiest in Britain with 88 million journeys a year, is to receive a major facelift. Network Rail has revealed proposals to build a glass fronted balcony at first floor level that will run the entire length of the station concourse, giving passengers access to 20,000 square foot of new shops, restaurants and bars.
The proposed raised runway also aims to ease congestion during rush hour for passengers moving between the mainline station and Waterloo East. Work is expected to be completed in time for the 2012 London Olympic games.
