Met police force faces cuts in numbers of officers
London’s police force could be cut by over 1,000 officers in the first quarter of this year, under plans presented by the Met deputy commissioner Tim Godwin to meet budget cuts of £100 million.
The deputy commissioner’s plans also include proposals to slash the number of traditional police stations in the capital to save on property costs and introduce public front-counter services, with centralised custody suites.
Godwin pledged to protect frontline services by removing officers from training and human resources. In the annual London survey 2010, 41 per cent of Londoners listed policing as a top priority.
