Incidences of robbery on London’s public transport system have been slashed by almost half in the last three years, according to figures from Transport for London.
Crime on the capitals buses and tubes dropped sharply: robbery fell by 46.5 per cent, and criminal damage to buses and tubes by 59.3 per cent.
Overall crime dropped by 30 per cent on buses and by 20 per cent on tubes. London Mayor Boris Johnson has announced plans for over 400 new officers to patrol the network as part of a £42 million pound increase in funding to fight crime.
The number of CCTV cameras on the tube is to rise by 2,000 over the coming years, meaning that no one will be able to enter the network without their face being recorded.
