Festivals & Filmsfrom 29.06 to 25.09.2011Twombly and Poussin: Arcadian painters 29 June-25 Sept. An interesting exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery contrasts the work of 17th-century classical painter Nicolas Poussin (1594 -1665) with that of American artist Cy Twombly (1928-2011), who died recently in Rome.
The exhibition highlights the shared similarities of the two artists, separated by three centuries, and focuses on key themes central to their work such as Arcadia and the pastoral, Venus and Eros, anxiety, theatricality and mythological figures.
The exhibition is accompanied by the British premiere of "Edwin Parker", Tacita Dean's film about Twombly, who was once quoted as saying: “I would’ve liked to have been Poussin, if I’d had a choice, in another time.”
