After the outbreak of world war one, American artist Edward McKnight Kauffer moved to England where he went on to produce iconic and influential commercial imagery.
Although his artwork spanned painting to scenography, it was his posters created for companies such as the London Underground and Shell during the inter-war years that garnered him the most acclaim.
Inspired from a wide variety of styles, his merging of a striking avant-garde approach to the needs of his advertisers led to his posters becoming instantly recognisable.
The exhibition also includes lesser-known paintings and prints and a selection of photographs, sketches and original designs.
